Samsung Launches New GALAXY Tab 4 7.0 Tablet Powered by Marvell's ARMADA Mobile PXA1088 System-on-Chip

The award-winning Marvell ARMADA Mobile PXA1088 quad-core platform supports all global broadband 3G standards and enables superior multimedia performance and wireless capabilities for the mass market worldwide

Santa Clara, California (August 12, 2014) – SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Aug 12, 2014) — Marvell (NASDAQ: MRVL) today announced that Samsung selected the award-winning Marvell® ARMADA® Mobile PXA1088, a highly integrated quad-core application and communications mobile System-on-Chip (SoC), to power Samsung’s new 7-inch GALAXY Tab 4 7.0 tablet. The Marvell PXA1088 was chosen for its support of all global broadband 3G standards, and its ability to deliver superior multimedia performance and wireless capabilities for the mass market at an affordable price point. This launch is a continuation of Marvell and Samsung’s successful launches of the Samsung GALAXY Tab 3 and GALAXY Tab 3 Lite, both currently shipping to consumers around the globe.

As part of Marvell’s unified ARMADA Mobile communication processor family, the Marvell PXA1088 is designed with the company’s field-proven 3G cellular modem, supporting High Speed Packet Access Plus, (HSPA+) Time Division High Speed Packet Access Plus (TD-HSPA+), and Enhanced Data for GSM Environment (EDGE). The Marvell PXA1088 platform, additionally, is designed to deliver high-performance computing with industry-leading graphics capabilities, enabling a superior end-user experience for multimedia and gaming applications with universal connectivity. Marvell’s complete mobile platform solution supports the latest Avastar® WLAN + Bluetooth + FM single-chip SoC family, the GNSS Hybrid Location Processor, and integrated power management and audio codec solutions.

Key features of the Samsung GALAXY Tab 4 include:

  • 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4GHz + 5 GHz Wi-Fi support
  • 1.2 GHz Quad-core processor
  • 1.5 GB of DRAM, with support for external memory via MicroSD (up to 64GB)
  • 1280 x 800 (WXGA) main screen resolution
