Marvell Introduces First WLAN Chipset Based on EWC Specification

Company Extends Consumer WLAN Technology Leadership To Accelerate 802.11n Adoption

 

Sunnyvale, California (October 11, 2005) – arvell, (NASDAQ: MRVL), the leader in storage, communications, and consumer silicon solutions, has extended the company’s technology leadership in the wireless space by announcing the availability of the Marvell 88W8360 chipset family.  The 88W8360 family is the first silicon based on the Enhanced Wireless Consortium’s (EWC) recently announced technology specification for next-generation wireless local area networking (WLAN) products.  The 88W8360 plays a key role in connecting all the elements of the digital home and is targeted at access points, PCs, set-top clients, residential gateways and other emerging consumer appliances.  Marvell is working closely with key customers to deliver consumer products based on the EWC specification. 

As the recognized leader in embedded consumer WLAN, Marvell revolutionized the industry by introducing the first 90nM solution for embedded consumer solutions including gaming, cellular handsets, digital cameras, MP3 players and other consumer devices.   Marvell also delivered the first integrated WLAN VOIP products for cordless handsets and residential gateways.  Also integral to Marvell’s digital home portfolio are the Company’s industry leading fast ethernet and gigabit switches for IP set top boxes, game consoles and broadband gateways.

The Marvell 88W8360 802.11n family ties together all digital, consumer components by enabling consumers to enjoy new levels of wireless performance and coverage demanded by next generation of integrated audio/video/data consumer appliances.

The Marvell 88W8360 chipset has a peak data rate of 300 Mbps.  Supporting 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, as well as 20 MHz and 40 MHz channelization, the Marvell 88W8360 has the advanced Quality of Service mechanisms required to support the emerging digital home market by enabling transmission of multiple high-definition video streams while simplifying the end-user experience.  Marvell is engaged with leading handset manufactures and carriers to deliver optimized products for mobile handsets, with integrated software and hardware support for IMS services in 3G networks.

The Marvell 88W8360 chipset is currently available and Marvell is working closely with key OEMs on related product development.  Marvell is working with customers to shorten design cycles and ensure a timely market introduction.
